Visovac Monastery as a separate island visit
Visovac Monastery stands on an island in Visovac Lake, within the wider Krka landscape. A visit combines a boat journey with time at a Franciscan religious site. The regular Skradin transfer ends at Skradinski buk; reaching the island is a separate step. Choose the island route before building the rest of the day, especially if a waterfall walk and return transport also need to fit.
The island’s heritage includes archaeological finds, liturgical textiles and objects, and a library with incunabula. Franciscans settled here in 1445, while the cultural heritage account dates the monastery and church construction to 1576. Those dates describe settlement and construction respectively. They should not become one age for all the buildings. The history guide places the island alongside the town and the river’s working heritage.

Long excursions or a short crossing
The published excursions from Skradinski buk and from Roški slap each take two hours, including a 30-minute island visit. They return to their starting point. The longer combination from Skradinski buk takes four hours and includes 30 minutes on Visovac plus 90 minutes at Roški slap. This is a substantial addition to a day that also includes the waterfall circuit, rather than a continuation of the short boat transfer from Skradin.
Stinice and Remetić offer a different approach: the crossing is about five minutes, with 30 minutes for the visit. The 2026 tariff describes this return outing as 35 minutes. Select the shore access that fits your travel plan instead of travelling first to Skradinski buk simply to board a longer excursion. Free parking is available at both shore locations. Stinice is reached via Miljevci, while Remetić is reached via Dubravice and Rupe.
Plan park access alongside the island journey
Arrange land-site admission and the separate Visovac excursion as distinct parts of the day.
Separate boat fares for 2026
The two-hour return excursion from Skradinski buk to Visovac costs EUR 15 for an individual adult and EUR 10 for a child in the 2026 list. The two-hour route from Roški slap uses the same fares. The four-hour Skradinski buk, Visovac and Roški slap combination costs EUR 20 for an adult and EUR 15 for a child. These are additional boat fares, separate from park admission.
The short return trip from Stinice or Remetić costs EUR 10 for an adult and EUR 7 for a child. For these boat fares the child category is ages 4 to 18, with children under 4 travelling free. This differs from the admission age categories, so keep the two charges distinct when planning a family visit. The park tickets page explains the land-site admission that sits alongside the excursion fare.
Season, daily departures and religious dates
The regular excursion season runs from April to October. For a date near the edge of that season, arrange the island plan around the actual daily departures rather than a summer timetable. The schedule for individual visitors is set each day. A planned winter stay in Skradin should therefore start with land visits, with an island journey considered separately only when the day’s operation supports it.
Stinice is closed from January to March and in November and December. A summer departure pattern from that shore should not be carried into those months. On 2 and 15 August, island access is for pilgrimage visits rather than normal tourist excursions. If the monastery is your main reason for travelling, those dates change the purpose and structure of the visit even though they fall within the regular season.
Clothing, dogs and the next part of the day
Wear appropriate clothing for a religious site. Dogs are not allowed on Visovac, so an island stop needs its own arrangement if you are travelling with one. The mainland park’s rule of keeping dogs on a lead does not override the island rule. Leave time to board and return according to the daily arrangements, and treat the island visit as part of the excursion rather than an open-ended stay.
Visovac is the Catholic Franciscan island monastery. Krka Monastery is a different, Orthodox religious place on the upper river. The 2026 fortress excursion from Roški slap names Trošenj and Nečven, seen from the boat, and does not include a monastery stop. Choose between an island visit and that upper-river excursion by the places actually on each route.
Use the boat guide to separate the Skradin transfer, the island excursion and longer river outings. A general park ticket or a day trip with free time should be combined with a specific Visovac boat arrangement if the island is your goal. That keeps the route realistic and leaves the return journey visible in your plan, rather than treating every boat on the Krka as one continuous service.
Questions about your visit
Is the Visovac boat part of the Skradin transfer?
The regular Skradin transfer ends at Skradinski buk. Visovac excursions use separate routes and additional fares.
Which option uses the shortest crossing?
Stinice and Remetić offer crossings of about five minutes, with a 30-minute island visit. Choose the shore approach and daily departure together.
Can I bring a dog to Visovac?
Dogs are not allowed on the island. Plan a mainland visit or make a separate arrangement for the dog if you intend to visit the monastery.
What changes on 2 and 15 August?
The park specifies pilgrimage visits on those dates rather than normal tourist excursions. Choose another date for a standard island outing.
