Skradin between town and national park

Skradin sits on the right bank of the Krka, combining a historic town with a seasonal waterborne approach to Skradinski buk. For a first visit, decide whether you want an independent park day, a guided outing or time in the town itself. Those choices lead to different tickets and meeting points. The waterfront is a starting place for the park transfer, while the old streets belong to a separate town walk.

The surrounding national park protects a river landscape of travertine barriers, lake sections and limestone valley. Its waterfalls are part of a sensitive living system, so the marked visitor paths matter as much as the viewpoints. A visit focused on Skradinski buk is different from an itinerary through the upper park. Keep those areas distinct when choosing how much travelling to put into your day.

Find the right part of the guide

Start with the main purpose of your visit, then use the practical pages to connect it to an entrance and season. The town, the lower waterfalls and the upper river each deserve a clear place in the plan. A ticket can cover several land sites without supplying every transfer between them. The pages here separate those decisions so that a boat photograph or a broad excursion title does not become your whole itinerary.

Leave time for the old town

The protected centre has narrow paved lanes, passages and vaulted spaces, with houses from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Around Trg Male Gospe, the church, parish building and town hall give a walk a natural focus. Turina stands above the town, linking its medieval story to the earlier Liburnian settlement. Explore these places as your own town itinerary; the park-guiding options serve a different purpose.

Skradin developed on ancient Scardona, with both Liburnian and Roman history. That background gives the waterfront more context than a simple stop between a coach and a boat. For the longer story, use the history guide; for a practical walk, follow the town sights. Church and fortress exteriors can shape the route without building it around an assumed interior opening.

Split

If your starting point is Split, an organised day trip combines the road journey with a Krka visit. Compare what is included rather than treating all waterfall outings alike: the park ticket, a boat segment and a swimming stop are separate parts of a package. The day-trip comparison explains those choices.

Trogir

Starting in Trogir calls for the departure option that actually serves that town. Keep the meeting point and the return arrangements together when planning. A regional departure is useful when you want transport organised around the park, while staying in Skradin lets you plan your own entrance visit.

Good to know

The Skradin park boat takes 20 minutes each way and runs in its regular season from April to October. Its return transport is included with the relevant admission option. In winter, plan around the land approach rather than expecting the summer boat service. The foot and cycle route from Skradinski most is 3,400 m, and the waterfall circuit is a further, separate visitor route.

Swimming at Skradinski buk is prohibited. Keep the waterfall visit to the marked paths and respect the travertine, plants and wildlife. Dogs must be leashed, camping and drones are prohibited in the park, and motor vehicles may use only authorised routes. For footwear and mobility planning, remember that wood, gravel, paving and stairs occur on the visitor routes.

For an independent day, read admission and hours before settling on your entrance. Burnum was closed for conservation work at the information date of 2 November 2026. Current local instructions still matter even when a site appears in a broad ticket description. Additional boats to Visovac are a separate decision from the included Skradin transfer.

Questions about visiting Skradin

Is this guide run by the park or town?

This is an independent guide, separate from the National Park Krka administration, the town and excursion operators. It helps you compare visitor choices and does not act as their booking office.

Does the Skradin boat run throughout the year?

The regular included transfer runs from 1 April to 31 October. Use the boat page for the route and plan a land approach for a winter visit.

Should I choose Skradin or Lozovac?

Skradin suits a seasonal boat approach or the foot and cycle route. Lozovac is the main road entrance, with a free car park and seasonal park bus. Choose around your transport and walking needs.
