Best Time to Visit Krka National Park: Weather and Boats

The best time to visit Krka National Park depends on the boat season, your entrance and the balance between ticket prices and weather.

  • Boat seasons and park rules covered

Choosing the best time to visit Krka National Park

The best time to visit Krka National Park depends on what you want to include. April, May and October combine the regular Skradin boat season with lower standard admission than June to September. Winter brings lower entry prices again, but the day is shorter and the regular boat transfer from Skradin is outside its season. Start with the access you want, then choose a month that supports that route.

For a visit centred on the river approach, a date within the boat season is the practical starting point. For a land visit, the entrance arrangements matter more than a photograph of summer water. A plan that works in July needs adjusting in November, even when the waterfall remains your main aim. The getting there guide explains the different approaches without treating every entrance as interchangeable.

Krka seasons compared

The 2026 individual adult admission for all accessible land sites is EUR 20 in April, May and October, compared with EUR 40 from June through September. January to March and November to December use the EUR 7 winter band. These are admission categories, rather than prices for every boat excursion. The separate upper-sites ticket excludes Skradinski buk, so compare the scope as well as the month on the tickets page.

April and May suit a plan that gives the seasonal transfer an important role without using the summer admission band. October offers the same tariff advantage, though the published park hours shorten during the month. September still belongs to the summer ticket band. This distinction matters if you are choosing between neighbouring months: an autumn date does not by itself mean the lower ticket price applies.

Weather around Skradin

The historical weather reference is the DHMZ station at Šibenik, using observations from 1949 to 2024. It describes a coastal reference location rather than a Skradin measuring station, and the river valley can differ locally. These figures are historical monthly means, not a forecast for 2026 or typical daily maximum and minimum temperatures. Use them to compare seasons, then use a forecast for the actual day.

April has a historical mean air temperature of 13.8°C and mean monthly precipitation of 61.0 mm. May records 18.4°C and 49.7 mm, while October records 16.4°C and 84.0 mm. The comparison explains why those months should not be treated as identical simply because their entry prices match. Clothing and the route still need to suit the conditions you encounter.

July is the warmest and driest month in that historical series, with a mean temperature of 25.3°C and mean precipitation of 29.4 mm. November is the wettest, with 116.2 mm and a mean temperature of 11.9°C. A lower monthly rainfall figure does not promise a dry walking day, and these figures do not predict waterfall flow. Keep weather expectations separate from the operating calendar.

Boat season and the winter alternative

The regular Skradin park boat operates from 1 April to 31 October, with the return transfer included in admission during that season. The journey takes 20 minutes each way. Daily departure arrangements still belong in the day plan; avoid attaching a tight onward connection to an assumed boat frequency. Visovac excursions are separate additions with their own seasonal arrangements.

For winter, plan a land approach instead of building the day around that transfer. Lozovac allows private cars on the access road from November to March; from April to October the park bus serves that road. There is also a walking alternative. This is an entrance choice, not permission to drive on visitor paths. Stinice is closed from January to March and in November and December, which also affects plans for the upper river.

Dates that need a different plan

The published calendar closes the park on 25 and 26 December, ends visiting at noon on 24 and 31 December, and opens only Lozovac entrance on 1 January. Use the full opening calendar before arranging transport. At the information date of 2 November 2026, Burnum is closed for conservation work, so leave that site out of an itinerary until a reopening is announced.

The seasonal day trip includes return transport, a guide, a boat to Skradin and swimming time in Skradin, with park admission paid separately in cash at check-in. Swimming time in town does not permit swimming at Skradinski buk. Choose this outing for its transport and river component, and keep any independent Visovac island visit as a separate planning decision.

Questions about your visit

Which months combine lower admission with the regular boat season?

April, May and October combine the EUR 20 individual adult full-land-sites price for 2026 with the regular Skradin boat season.

Can the historical weather table predict my visit?

The Šibenik figures cover 1949 to 2024. They help compare months, but a local forecast and the conditions on the day are needed for your visit.

Should a winter visit start in Skradin?

Plan the entrance before travelling. The regular Skradin boat is seasonal, while Lozovac has winter road access for private cars and a shorter visiting day.
